Pink Hat

Watercolor
21 x 14

Finished this one about a month ago, maybe a bit more, and never got around to adding it here. So here it is. A nice airy, summery painting.

Dave , you sure have a gift for this type{as well as others} of work . Such a young soul wandering the open fields , her heart in another place perhaps . Thoughts and desires swirl around in her young mind . Another image that evokes so many possiblities and stories .
BUT underlying all of this , the soul and sensibility of the artists is more than apparent . Beautifully executed Dave .

You'll never know how much all your comments have meant to me. In the last day or two you seem to have spent a lot of time here looking around and commenting and it's awfully nice to know there's somebody out there that not only likes my work but actually gets it.

Lately I've been thinking it may be time to move on and do something else. I'm running low on paint so is it really worth it to order more and continue on. I've felt this way before and strangely enough every time something happens to keep me going. This time it looks like you may be that gentle little push that makes me think I'm doing this for a reason.

Oh, and I like that you're seeing stories in these pieces. I've always considered myself a storyteller, I'm just better with images than words.

Dave , if my comments have meant so much then listen to this one . I do NOT want to be the one who gives you a gentle little push , Mate I want to give you a great bloody shove .
My own bit of philosophy now .
" IT IS NOT SELFISH TO PERSUE OUR GOD-GIVEN TALENT , IT IS SELFISH NOT TO "
I mean what is happening here .I 'accidentally" come across a wonderful talent and he is pondering about " moving on " What is the matter with that art loving country of yours . I mean sincerely here is another Andrew Wyeth { as far as sheer artistic expression goes}and he is thinking about moving on . Keep your creativity flowing ,there is a time for everything . Your time is nigh , I can feel it in my bones .Have you seen the w/s on egg tempera artists . Some fantastic stuff there ,maybe a chance for you to get a wider audience ??? Your choice . By the way www.natureartists.com/malcolmarnold.asp if you want to have a squizzie at my stuff .
BUT PLEASE GET THOSE PAINTS , SHAKE YOURSELF OFF AND GET INTO IT . YOU ARE A GREAT TALENT AND IT SHOULD NOT BE WASTED .THE POSSESSOR OF SUCH A RARE GIFT SHOULD NOT GO thinking about
" moving on "

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. I got tied up with some things. Thanks for the push even though I don't agree with the philosophy. I'm afraid I go along with the idea of enlightened self interest. And considering I haven't sold anything in two years I'm not sure it's in my self interest to keep banging my head against a wall. I haven't done a tempera in quite a while and don't see any more of those in my future unless specifically requested which is unlikely. They take too long to do. A good size one can take a month or more to do. I might actually net $200 for a month's work

My time is nigh. You know how many times I've heard that and from how many people? Let's look at a couple of the galleries I've been associated with. New Arts had a group show once upon a time of all or at least most of the people they represented. I was the only one that had any sales at all. I sold out and was never offered another show or spot in another show. You see, I wasn't mentioned in the newspaper reviews because I'm not cutting edge whatever that means. They've since gone out of business. The gallery where I took this painting had an interesting comment about it. "I can't sell this, it looks like somebody." Which raises the question WTF? It seems they would rather sell a $50 print in a $500 frame. And maybe one more thing that had nothing at all to do with me, but it was one of the most talked about art exhibits in the last couple years. It was called "The Gallery Lady" and consisted of a young woman in her 20's sitting behind a desk like you would find in any art gallery. If you went up to her she would slap you, and I'm not talking a little pat. She'd wack you pretty good. And that is pretty much the state of the art world around here.

Strange you mention Andrew Wyeth. I used to get compared to him a lot. It was usually meant as an insult though. I can't quite figure things out around here. The good news is there are a couple new places I want to take a look at that may be different.
