My 100th Post

Blogger informs me that this is my 100th post. Seems a bit of a milestone, modest by some standards but still. I should have some kind of big important thing today in honor of it, but I got nothing. So we'll just consider it business as usual.

Silverpoint heightened with white gouache

Not only do I not have anything planned for today's momentous posting, I don't even have a title for this piece. Suggestions are welcome. I still think it came out pretty good. Originally I had planned to just do a vignette, but as is usually the case, it just kept growing outward. I rather like the pose and can see it growing up into something bigger. Don't hold your breath on that one though.

I see a lot of these drawings growing up and so far very, very few have. I seem to draw a line between preparatory drawings and finished drawings. It all has to do with the original intent apparently. Some of the prep drawings could easily stand on their own, but they usually get stuffed away. Most of the finished drawings could be carried further into paint and color, but the original thought said drawing is as far as they should go. No good reasoning behind it really.

I'm rambling today. Nothing much to say. Just wanted to put something up for y'all to look at.

Congratulations on your 100th post. Its a milestone indeed.

This drawing is wonderful. The lines of the pose are beautiful. I haven't got a title suggestion for you, but I'm sure that will come to you.

You so inspire me to do something with silverpoint again. I've only done one drawing but must try more.

Thanks, but 100 posts really isn't all that great. If you can type fast enough and have a desire to babble about whatever comes to mind you could probably crank out 100 in a week or less. Given the constant internal dialog going on in my head, that may well be more interesting. But I think that dialog should remain where it is. Don't want to scare all the normal people.

A lot of people tell me that they want to try silverpoint. At first I thought I would really prefer that they didn't. I wouldn't be as unique. Then it occurred to me that uniqueness wasn't a goal I wanted to achieve. I wanted to be good, actually better that good, and silverpoint just feels right to me. If a drawing is just a curiousity of medium there's no way it will stand for long. Just lost my train of thought and I have no idea where I was going with it. Maybe I was done. See what I mean about the internal dialog?

I look at this piece and I think of a gypsy girl dancing around the camp fire at night, singing and playing music with her Romani friends and family.

Maybe you can come up with another name from this post from that.

Beautiful delicate looking work on this.

The gypsy thing had occurred to me too. Maybe it will grow into something.
