Ground Fog
Oil on Panel
5.5 x 12
I've got to tell you I like fog. No idea why but I do. Not constantly you understand, but now and then. When I first moved out here, before the building spree, this is pretty much the way it looked most mornings. It would burn off fairly quickly so it wouldn't be depressing all day. Now fog is more uncommon and to see fog rising from the fields like this I need to go out a few more miles into the farmland. I think I like the subtlety of the colors and the quiet that usually comes with it. That's what I was going for here anyway. Welcome to my world.

Love the mistiness. I think you have achieved what you were aiming at. It's very peaceful and looks similar to where I live.
I like the wide format too.
If you like fog you should come to England - lots of it.... and rain! :)
Let's not get carried away here. The nice thing about ground fog like this is that by mid morning it's burned off. So you get the best of both worlds. Actually I'd love to go to England, Ireland and Scotland. Wales too, don't want to offend anybody.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I often wonder if I'm alone here. Thanks again.
Lovely piece. I share your love of painting foggy, misty scenes. Around here (Virignia) you have to get up pretty early in the morning. And if you can bear the heat, in mid-summer you can paint the humidity too. Some days it seems like the atmosphere is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Ugh!
Thanks. Virginia sounds a lot like St. Louis, lots of humidity here too with all the rivers. After high school football with two-a-days in full pads at 90 degrees and 90% humidity, painting is no sweat so to speak.
Thanks for dropping by.
Your work really captures the feel of Missouri, makes me wish I stayed a little longer in O'Fallon

Thanks a lot. I always try to get a "sense of place" as opposed to just somewhere. Missouri really is a pretty nice state, underrated if not completely overlooked.
I love this setting. It's a place I can see myself in. I'm like you and absolutely love fogs. To me they hold a great mysteriousness and are very ethereal.
Thanks again. I'm a bit surprised at all the comments directed at this little piece. It's a nice, simple little thing, but I really didn't expect it to get all this attention. Very pleasant surprise.
Sometimes simply holds more interest.
